Poultry Diseases Testing
There are few or none of the avian diseases in the poultry production nowadays that appears to be just like the typical one in academic textbooks. Regarding vaccines, numerous kinds have been developed and produced based on the issues on chicken diseases that occurred in the field. Basically, these vaccines can be classified into two types: inactivated and activated. The inactivated type is the vaccine with the killed version of the pathogen that causes diseases, and the activated type is the live vaccine which utilizes the virus’s weakened trait that is designed to help the development of an immune response. In the case of applying the latter, there remains a concern for the weakened live virus to survive after being applied in the subject under the methods of growing, storing and feeding in the Japanese poultry industry. Therefore, there is a strong trend of accumulation of microorganism, such as virus and bacteria, in the subject which stem from the live vaccine that has been applied following the consequences of diseases. The microorganism in the live vaccine increases in the cell though having low pathogenicity, and hence, it causes damage to organisms and cells, albeit in a very small quantity. The hike in the number of microorganisms is human-induced because they originate from the live vaccine, so the influence of such an increase on the vaccinated subject should be minimum. But as a reality, there is a strong need for the presumption of the existence of vaccine-originated microorganisms which become indigenous in the vaccinated subject.
As for ordinary avian diseases, there are a number of well-known, selectable, orthodox counteractions, but in case of the emergence and invasion of unknown pathogens, these traditional methods are not substantial enough for protection, because in such an invasion, even the simple first step to find the way to test the case is uncertain.
PPQC has accumulated the fulfilling experience of 38 years, including exploring and inventing the testing methods against such unknown pathogens with the motto of revealing, and clarifying encountered phenomena with and exploring the solution for each of our clients.
We practice the following as the testing methods to clarify etiology
- Screening antibody titer of main infectious pathogens
- Genetic testing in regards of the search of the presence of main infectious pathogens
- Isolating suspected pathogens
- Pathological testing against unknown infectious diseases
- Analyzing gene sequences as needed
PPQC will devise a custom-made method to find a solution, depending on each client’s cause of the issue, while providing consultation for the elimination of the risk of financial loss in the industry attributed to the pathogen.
With continuous promotions of research and study in the industry, PPQC has discovered phenomena in the fields of pathogenic microorganisms and microbial genetics and published these findings in academic journals.
Additionally, PPQC has educated and produced many PhD fellows by utilizing its research and study in partnership with Osaka Metropolitan University and Tottori University.
